Following multiple recent reports in the press of horror stories from patients who have been treated inappropriately by untrained and unqualified practitioners, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Beauty, Aesthetics & Well-being is to launch an inquiry into the regulation of this growing industry.
Consultant Plastic Surgeons in the UK have for some time raised significant concerns regarding the widespread unregulated use of dermal fillers and Botox. There have been several high profile cases in the press that have highlighted this issue which has led to this latest inquiry. It is hoped that the recommendations from this inquiry lead to a well-overdue overhaul of the clinical governance of this growing industry.
A cross-party group of MPs re-launched the Beauty, Aesthetics and Wellbeing All-Party Parliamentary Group (BAW APPG) in January to celebrate the beauty and aesthetics industry and explore the challenges it faces. The group is Co-chaired by Carolyn Harris MP and Judith Cummins MP.
